SPOTLIGHT Questions and Answers with the Author

Congratulations on your short story set: Spell Caster. What do you have on the drawing board next? Rumor has it that you have another book on the horizon called Firestorm In My Soul. Can you tell us the timeline for its release and give us a little tease?

Well, for those of you who have read Frost on my Pillow, you know it’s the continuation of that book. I’ve had to pitch my 76k manuscript to restart. So it’s taking me awhile. I’ve had a lot of medical problems come up and a huge mind blank on where to take the story next, so I’ve stepped back and worked on other projects for a while.

You have a good following on twitter. How important have your social media relationships been? How did you build your following in your niche? Do you see a carry over to your writing success?

I think my Twitter relationship is the most important right now. I reach more people, and can interact with more authors and book bloggers and the likes. It’s nice to be able to have people see your work, talk to you about it, and then retweet your posts.

Do you do any book signings, interviews, speaking and personal appearances? If so, when and where is the next place where your readers can see you? Where can they keep up with your personal contacts online?

I have a scheduled appearance in November at the Writer’s on the River author meet and greet at my local library. There will be 30 Michigan authors there. Other then that, I tend to do blog postings and interviews for bloggers

You have great covers. How does your book cover creation process work? Do you hand over the basic theme or do you have more of a hands-on approach? Do you get your readers involved in its development?

My readers? No, I do all my covers. But, I do create cheap covers for authors. I charge 25-50 instead of the normal 100 i've been seeing over the last two weeks. I create things out of already drawn images. I can layer something, distort it, whatever. I love doing it, and it brings me great joy!

You have a great book trailer. (See link below.) It looks very professional. Do you know how much impact it has had on your book’s success? Tell us about the process that you used to create your trailer? Do you use the trailer in your character development? Are the pictures and background the way you see your characters and scenes?

I used Canva to create all my slides, and the Windows Movie Maker to create to video itself. And I don't think it’s had much impact. And yes, all the slides are the way I see a certain aspect of my book.

I understand you also provide book trailer development services for other authors. Can you explain how our authors can start that process with you?

Just shoot me a message! I’d need your book’s title, cover image, general theme of the book, a blurb so I can pick certain things to write on each slides, ETC.

You have written several short stories. Can you tell us if they had an impact on the sales of your novels? Are shorty’s one of your styles of writing or are they created to give readers a sample of your work?

My publisher does a lot of anthologies, so I wrote most of them for those! And I don't know if they’ve had an impact on sales. My sales kind of suck lol

What has been your experience in giving your books away free? Have you been involved in any other type of giveaways and how did that work out? What was your main goal in doing this? Did you run into any obstacles?

I run into no obstacles. I like giving my readers a chance to read my work, though I usually ask for a review in return!

Do you maintain a reader list? What are the methods you use to find your readers and create the list and the relationship? Do you use social media, forums, newsletters and/or support groups to build your list?

I keep track of them all mostly on Twitter!!!
