Questions and Answers with the Author

What is the working title of your next book?

Game Of Fire

Where did the idea come from for the book?

We all know the CIA really has a domestic operation. And we know it is hidden from the public’s eye and it has no rules it has to go by. That fact takes the lead in this Jonathon Stone Mystery.

Another thing we know is when DHS took control of intelligence with a mission to coordinate information that that wasn’t going to work out. I am sure the CIA didn’t feel that sharing intelligence was going to be a two way street, do you?

Jonathon Stone is assigned to the CIA Division: DOT (Domestic Operations – Terrorism)

What genre does your book fall under?

Mystery & Thriller

What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition?

I would reunite the duo from “The Thomas Crown Affair”.

Jonathon Stone is a veteran CIA agent who has been assigned as a freelance asset in the United States.

In the past, he was an action type agent based in Europe. Now days, he solves the assignments with his mind rather than a gun. At least most of the time.

Jodi is a serious, no nonsense, FBI agent who leads the FBI Arson Task Force. While she fights to solve the mystery, she also fights Stone’s advances. As always, he tries to mix business with pleasure.

Jonathon Stone – Pierce Brosnan
Jodi Shannon, FBI Special Agent – Rene Russo
Chuck, CIA Agent - Tim Kang (from Rambo)
Detective Dave Dungee, Long Beach Detective - Brian Dennehy

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

An explosion and fire rocks South California and it is quickly determined its arson. The timing of the incident was special because it interrupts the Tet New Year’s Festival and Parade in Little Saigon, just east of Long Beach.

Had the old wounds of Vietnam been opened again or was there a different game being played?

Enter CIA Agent Jonathon Stone. Already in pursuit of the gun-running Minh family, he connects with a special FBI task force to assist in the investigation of the explosion.

Stone teams up with FBI Agent Jodi Shannon to pursue the people behind the arson fire.

As the game takes its twists and turns, Stone’s assignment leads to a shootout in Las Vegas and a car chase down the coast of Southern California.

Jonathon Stone battles his love for gambling and drinking and the ladies to help solve the mystery of the Game of Fire.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

All my books are self-published and only in an eBook format.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript?

It took about 6 months for the first draft. I do a lot of research for my novels which takes up a lot of the time. The Game of Fire is in the editing process now. I outsource the spelling/grammar thing. I have that problem where my mind runs faster than my fingers on the keyboard. I let MS-Word help me a lot but being edited by a professional really helps the final product.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

I can’t put my finger on any one book but it does follow along with several of the Stewart Woods novels and his character development.

Who or what inspired you to write this book?

I lived in Southern California for a period of time and I was always intrigued by the diversity of the people in the area and their traditions.

We had a Military Weapon’s Station right in the middle of town and that helped feed the image of something unknown being next door. This place was designated the Wal-Mart of the Pacific Fleet because of all the different types of weapons stored there.

I could walk out my back door and see the miles and miles of what appeared to be vacant land. Then when you got up close and saw the security fence and the jeeps patrolling the area, you knew what was underground and how dangerous it was.

It was the perfect place to put Jonathon Stone and let him use his skills to solve the Game Of Fire.

What else about the book might pique the reader's interest?

The book’s setting is in a large Vietnamese area of Orange County, California and it takes place during the Chinese New Year. The Chinese year of the story was the Year of the ‘Fire Pig’.

The reader will enjoy the sudden twist at the end. Nothing in the ‘Game Of Fire’ is like it appears.

Do you have any promotions going on with your other books?

That is a great question. Starting 2/14/2013 for TWO days, readers will be able to get a copy of Black Mountain Secrets for FREE at Amazon.

Readers should not miss this FREE opportunity to read about veteran CIA agent Jonathon Stone and his adventures on the Colorado River. Murder and a good mystery seem to follow Stone everywhere he goes. At the same time his love for gambling and drinking and the ladies is a constant battle.
